Rose McConnell Long was an American politician and the wife of Huey Long, a former governor and senator from Louisiana. She was born on April 8, 1892, and raised in a small farming community in Kansas. In 1913, she attended the University of Oklahoma, where she met Huey Long, whom she married in 1913. During her political career, Rose Long served as a United States Senator from Louisiana from 1936 to 1937, the first woman to do so. In addition to her political work, she was also a well-known philanthropist and activist for women's rights. Rose Long died on May 27, 1970, at the age of 78. Today, she is remembered as a trailblazer for women in politics and an important figure in Louisiana history.
